Much surpass than those watery cheapo mylar “survival blankets”. The Heatshield version is larger (much larger in the 2 person verson) tougher, and has a day-glo orange feature, which is simpler for rescuers to tinge.
I slightly rather the “bivvie” version, but that’s an individual choice. Very lightwieght and compact, belongs in each daypack and survival kit.
Now, it’s not for everyday use. Although the Heatshield version can stand up to extra than one use, it’s hard to repack and it isn’t tough enough for continual usages.
For that, what you want is one of the “space blankets” or “all ride out” with a laminate of fiber scrim and aluminized plastic. Those can be reused over and over, and make an brilliant groundcloth or emergency sheet. But, those are extra pricey and reasonably a bit larger and heavier.
